Jul 08, 2012 Windows 7 Forums is the largest help and support community, providing friendly help and advice for Microsoft Windows 7. Mar 01, 2011 Hi. The 'calendar' gadget that came with Windows 7 home Premium worked very well until I installed Windows 7 SP1. Since the installation of Windows 7.
Original title: Weather and Calendar Desktop Gadgets not working Ever since I bought my notebook (an Acer Aspire 5552 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit edition preinstalled), these two Desktop Gadgets didn't work. The Weather Gadget, when added to the Desktop, is completely transparent and only displays, on the upper-left corner, a blue circle with a red border with a white 'i' in the center and a tiny gray box with a white border on the bottom-ritght corner. When I hover over it, it shows the handle that lets me drag it and the 'X' to close it. Beyond that, the Gadget is completely unresponsive. As for the Calendar Gadget, it displays an orange page by default and an additional white page with nothing on it when I enlarge it using the arrow on the handle. Beyond that, the Gadget only allows me to close it. All other Desktop Gadgets always worked and still work well, even those that need to access the internet, like the Currency and Feed Headlines Gadgets. By the way, my wife has exactly the same notebook, and both Gadgets work well on hers While the notebook was under warranty, I requested support from Microsoft, but was redirected to Acer's support because Windows 7 came preinstalled on the notebook.
Acer's support tried very hard and provided many different solutions, but to no avail. Over and over they suggested me to look at some specific solutions provided on Microsoft Answers, which I always did. Finally, after more than half a year of frustration and annoyance, I gave up. This was six months ago, and I'm now ready to give it another try. Here is what I already tried and didn't work: • Resetting Windows Desktop Gadgets to its default state I did this by deleting the settings.ini file in%localappdata% microsoft Windows Sidebar, and even deleted all of the Gadgets folders • Followed the recommendations on • Deleted the Zones key in the registry • Executed the following commands: regsvr32 msxml3.dll regsvr32 scrrun.dll regsvr32 jscript.dll • Uninstalled and restored both Gadgets • Executed SFC.exe • Changed User Account Control settings I sincerely hope that somebody can help me out here.
Hi, I would suggest you to follow the steps provided below and check if the same issue occurs. Method 1: Try to reset the Sidebar to Defaults and check if the issue persists. A) Copy and paste the following text into your Start Search field exactly as it is below and press Enter.%localappdata% microsoft Windows Sidebar b) Typically you will only see two items a Gadgets folder, and a Settings file. C) Close Windows Sidebar if it is open – or you will be unable to complete the next step. D) Right-click on the Settings file, and select Rename, and change the file name to Settings.old e) Now open Windows Sidebar, and everything should be set to defaults. F) You can now add your gadgets, and customize the sidebar to your preference. Method 2: Windows 7 gadgets may not work or be displayed correctly: Method 3: If the issue persists try to create a new administrator user account and check if the same issue occurs.

Hope this information is helpful. Vinod N, I certainly appreciate your effort to help me in resolving the issue I'm having.
However, none of the methods suggested by you or the Miscrosoft Support Article ID 2515657 resolved my issue (some I already tried before). Here's what I did: 1. Reset the Sidebar to Defaults 2. Microsoft Support Article ID: 2515657 a) Restored gadgets to the default settings b) Turned off and then turned on the Windows Gadgets Platform c) Did not install the Internet Explorer 9 security update because it had already been installed on October 12, 2011 d) Did not change the registry value for Value data in Zones subkey to 0 because it already had a value of 0 e) Did not delete the additional (parasite) zone from the Zones subkey because it was not there 3.
Created a new administrator user account but the issue persisted, as it was exactly the same as wihen logged in to my own standard user account. Because of this, I obviously did not follow the steps to fix a corrupted user profile. Do you have any other suggestions? Please keep in mind that I already contacted the notebook manufacturer but the product is out of warranty. And Microsoft Support only accepts paid incidents support for the OEM version of Windows 7 installed on my notebook.
